CSEQ: College Environment
Research affirms the importance of the campus environment in learning and development. The CSEQ measures 10 environmental characteristics that encourage student participation in educationally purposeful activities. The College Environment items consist of two categories:
Environmental Emphasis:
Seven of the rating scales refer to the extent to which the environment emphasizes scholarly, intellectual, and practical activities. These are seven-point rating scales, with 7 defined as strong emphasis and 1 as weak emphasis.
Quality of Relationships:
The remaining three rating scales refer to relationships with students, faculty members, and administrative offices and personnel. On these scales, the positive end is defined by such words as friendly, supportive, approachable, helpful, considerate, flexible. The negative end is defined by such words as uninvolved, alienated, remote, unsympathetic, rigid, impersonal.
