Administration: Special Analysis

Special data analysis can be performed for institutions desiring information beyond the basic frequencies and descriptive statistics provided in the standard Institutional Report.

Some institutions simply request detailed breakdowns of their results (e.g. by class, residence, major, first-generation status, etc.). Some request to have comparative information compiled and listed within the standard tables for side-by-side comparisons.

Some examples of commonly requested statistical comparisons include:

  • Two groups on a campus (e.g., men and women, participants in an honors program and general students)
  • An institution's students and comparative data from other schools in its Carnegie Classification
  • An institution's students and students from a pre-established consortium
  • Current first-year students and first-year students from a previous year
  • First-year and Senior data for the same students

The most frequent analysis requested is a t-test to determine if statistical differences exist between groups, though we can also conduct an analysis of variance (ANOVA) or other specialized analyses as suitable to an institution's needs. We also help you interpret the statistical and practical significance of any findings.
